hi

Does anyone know of any reasons why the First School has vacancies for the coming academic year with no-one on the waiting list? Apart from the head's imminent departure, is there something untoward happening to the school that new parents need to be aware of?

Thanks Woodie - although really my question is why has the demand decreased? And why have parents withdrawn their child's allocated place?

Demand depends on people living within catchment having children of the right age group. Perhaps fewer people have moved into catchment from London, or alternatively, fewer people are reproducing here. I do know that this demand figure varies from year to year and a few years ago there were 'spare' places too, but the year after there were none.

For those kids going to the Middle School this year, rules were enforced quite strictly, implying more kids either moved here or were born here for this particular intake.

Perhaps insufficient people with children can afford to move to Penn/Tylers Green. Too many property speculators and other money-obsessed undesirables keeping descent, hard working families out of the catchment. Wink

I love it, people moan about 'the bloody kids' one minute and then moan there are not enough of them the next. As for me, I do not think we want too many of them running around unless they behave (which sadly seems to be getting rarer)!
Just imagine if we got that gypsy site and the little gypsy children started running around wrecking the village. Maybe this is why the first school has spare places - people worrying that their children will be forced to share classrooms with these delinquents!

There's nothing like a touch of bigoted, xenophobic paranoia at 3.00 in the afternoon eh Dick? Are you feeling better now?

Cannot argue with facts Mr Bump. Then again I suppose you would try arguing black is white, Capello is doing a good job as England manager and the Deepwater horizon thing was BP's fault.

Of course, regular readers of this forum will understand the misused and distorted definition of "a fact" on Penn and Tylers Green Forum. "A fact is an over-generalised, often poorly considered,  reactionary opinion as expressed by Dick Dastardly."

So Mr Bump, what have I said on this topic that you believe not to be a fact? Please keep your response short, clear and avoid using unnecessary italics!
